As I randomly and inexplicably segue from singing a Beatles song that I don’t particularly like to “Can Do” from Guys and Dolls, Hannah sez,

“You know, sometimes the songs that are in your head don’t have to come out of your mouth.”

  1. Maybe Can Do is a subconscious acknowledgment of the end of racing at Saratoga?
I had a Miami Sound Machine song, along with the Nivea, Nivea, Nivea…from your fingers to your toes, you ve got just one set of permanent clothes…and with a little daily care, daily care…, running simultaneuosly in my head yesterday. Forget about singing it aloud, I considered checking into a psych ward.
I also cant believe how much I identify with your end of summer comments. I did the wierd, mortalistic number of summers passed math.

  2. Maybe! Hadn’t thought of that, but the end of racing (and summer) does make traveling around the area a lot easier. But yes, worse songs have been stuck in my head . . . I had a particular Carpenters song stuck for my entire bike ride today, and not a good one.

  3. And sprinkled star dust in your eyes, oooooh, close to you. Pray tell, what was the song? Wife has all of the Singer Song Writer CDs

  4. “Top of the World” — the earworm was inspired by a Shonen Knife version Tarantino used in “Death Proof,” but then that old original, heard maybe 400,000 times while working in a grocery store in the ’70s, comes creeping back in.
