All lost in the supermarket

My nice, clean, reputable supermarket just went down a notch or three in my book (though not enough to send me to the competition, mind you). Last week I bought something I’d never bought before: fermented raisins. Not on purpose, mind you, but when I opened them up and scooped them onto my morning cereal, there was a smell like nothing else I’d ever gotten from a raisin container. Mmmm, raisin mash. So, scooped the offending raisins and a little bit of granola back into the box, and today I brought them back. I explained that they were fermented, and the lady at the service desk very nicely helped me fill out the return form and then gave me double my money back, since it was the store brand. Off I went with Hannah to do the week’s provisioning. A little while later, we came to the raisin section, where there was only one canister of the store brand (80 cents cheaper than Sun-Maid, and most of the time 80% as good). Not wanting a repeat episode of raisin disappointment, I thought I’d check under the lid and make sure the seal was still good. It wasn’t. In fact, it was opened. In fact, there were a couple of little granola flakes in the raisin box. In fact, tomorrow someone else is going to be getting double their money back. But kudos for the lightning-fast re-stocking, Hannaford!
