Observers Now at Posts Watch for Airplanes
Local Men and Women on Duty for Training Period of 10 days
Approximately 120 men and women went on duty Wednesday in the longest test for airplane observers yet conducted at posts in this area. Several brief stays have been scheduled under interceptor command but the current training will last 10 days.
Seven posts have been designated to remain unnamed according to orders. Men and women working in shifts will stand guard to watch the skies and report on passing aircraft. John Morehead, former Essex county commander of the American Legion, has been in charge of organization. Some pairs have as much as a 12 hour shift but each is allowed a period of sleep while the other watches. Temporary camps are being erected at some locations to provide shelter and warmth while the watchers are on duty 24 hours a day.
