Misc. Notes
Pecks were early settlers of New Haven. He probably had brothers present at the time, too. They married Merrills, Mosses, etc.

Jos. Peck: “Joseph Peck left London, England in the company of Reverend John Davenport, Theophilus Eaton and his brothers Henry and William Peck on board the ship, The Hector. They arrived in Boston, Massachusetts on June 26, 1637. Reverend Davenport and many of his followers settled in the colony of New Haven, Connecticut where they were free to practice in their puritan beliefs. This is where Joseph lived with his brother Henry and his family. During this period Joseph’s name appeared in many town records, court proceedings and militia calls. Joseph finally moved to Milford, Connecticut in 1649. There he married John Burwell’s widow, Alice Heath, on September 12, 1650 by Captain Asa Woods. Alice later died on December 19, 1666. Joseph then married Mary Richards, daughter of Thomas Richards of Waterbury, Connecticut, in March of 1669. Joseph was a member of the town militia when the colony was threatened by the Dutch in 1654. He was a strict puritan in his beliefs and became a member of the congregational church in May 1652. Joseph died on February 26, 1701. His age was never mentioned or recorded so his year of birth still remains a mystery. On the 250th year after the founding of the colony, the town of Milford built a bridge commemorating all the prominent settlers who were a part of their heritage. A stone was placed in honor of Joseph and Alice Peck. (photo in Jos. Peck’s book.)”96

Jacobus’s book on Families of Ancient New Haven starts a Peck line with Joseph, and does not identify his parentage, instead noting him only as a “settler” who appears to have been unconnected to the beginning William. Joseph Peck of Rochester’s work connects him to Joseph Peck and Alice Heath. “For the unusually full account we are able to give of the family of Joseph Peck of M[ilford], we are very largely indebted to the generosity of George C. Bryant, Esq., of Ansonia, Conn. FAM.38. JOSEPH, the settler, adm. to Milford Church, May 1652, d 26 Feb 1700/1 MV; m (1) 12 Sep 1650 NHV -- Alice, wid. John Burwell, who d 19 Dec 1666 MC1; m (2) Mary da. Thomas Richards of Wat[ertown], who was adm to Milford Church, 26 Nov 1669.” 97 Abbreviations are for sources; NHV is New Haven Vital statistics; others are from Milford.

Maurice Peck, whose info add to the confusion of whether there were or weren’t two Josephs:
1-Joseph Peck, d. 1701, in 1650 married Alice Burwell (a widow), d. 1666; after Alice’s death Joseph married Marie Richards; he had 6 children:
Alice’s children were: 2-Elizabeth, b. 1651; 2-Joseph, 1653-1731, and 2-John, b. 1655
Marie’s children were: 2-Mary, b. 1670; 2-Ann, b. 1672, and 2-Hannah.
As related earlier, Joseph presumably came to America in 1637 with William and Henry, in the company of Puritans headed by the Reverend Davenport and Governor Eaton, and got to New Haven in 1638. Ira Peck says that Joseph first appeared in the records in 1643. I suggest that this, plus the fact that he did not marry until 1650, joined the church in 1652, and lived until 1701, indicates that he was much younger than William and Henry, possibly a younger brother or nephew. We know that William was born in London and that he and Henry and also presumably Joseph were almost certainly members of Davenport’s influential London Church before coming to America. Thus they were evidently natives of that city. It is said that william was a merchant and it seems likely that Henry and Joseph were tradesmen or artisans of some kind.216
