“Andrew Peck, son of Joshua and Rachel (Mallory) Peck, was born in Washington County, New York. He was married 1st to Ester ___ about 1819. She was born in 1802 and died April 12, 1822. He married a 2nd time on October 27, 1823 in Weathersfield, Vermont to Abigail (Smith) Nutting, who was born in 1796 and was the widow of George Nutting also of Weathersfield. Andrew enlisted into the military at Westport, New York on May 29, 1813 with his brother Lyman and was assigned to Captain C.G. Jones’ 1st Company in the 29th U.S. Infantry. He also was involved with operations and skirmishes against the British forces prior to the Battle of Plattsburgh, New York. Andrew was honorably discharged on May 29, 1814 and settled down to raise his family as a basket-maker. Andrew was also at the militia camp at Salmon River with his brother David when their older brother Philo was brought in from the field with a knee wound. Andrew became a member of the First Baptist Church about 1826. His wife Abigail who was a Methodist, converted to the Baptist Church and became a member in 1825. Some of the early church records indicated that Andrew and maybe Agibail were dismissed from the church several times for public drunkenness and neglect of their family. After the death of Andrew’s wife Abigail in Sept. 1855, he applied for and received a land bounty from the government for 160 acres of land for his service during the War of 1812. Andrew married a 3rd time about 1856 in the Town of Jay to Elizabeth Chamberlin, the daughter of Samuel and Susan (Davenport) Chamberlin from Hoboken, New Jersey. Andrew died in Jay some time after August of 1860. Elizabeth also died in Jay on November 17, 1897 and was buried at the Cemetery in Blackbrook, NY.”96

In the 1855 census, Andrew was 60, a widower, a farmer; he had been born in Washington County, NY, had lived 53 years in Jay, and owned land. With him were E.C. (Eliza?) Peck, P.W. (Parilla?) Peck, P.C. (Phodima?) Peck, and Racheal [sic] Jaquish.187

In the 1820 census, he had 1 male between 16-26, 1 female between 16-26, and 1 person engaged in agriculture.245
