Misc. Notes
In the “Early Records of the City and County of Albany . . . “ Storm Vanderzee Bradt is mentioned several times.
On p. 75, he is among a list of debtors in the assignment of debts from Jan Gerritsen Van Marcken to Harmen Rutgers and Volckert Janse. He is listed as “Storm Albertse [Bratt],” owing “ƒ 9.00”. This item is then footnoted as follows: “Storm Alberts Bratt, alias Vanderzee, son of Andriese Bratt De Noorman, was bon at sea in a storm, hence he was called Storm Vanderzee, and many, if not all of his descendants, assumed the latter name. In 1662, he was complained of for smuggling in New Amsterdam.
He was noted as Storm Albertse [Bratt] on page 80 as the seller of a bed “with its appurtenances” for eight and fifty guilders.
