Jarheads throwing bottles again
Luckily, I lost my faith in humanity long ago, or this constant rash of barely evolved creatures throwing things at me from cars would be putting a serious dent in it. I don’t know if it’s their fear of fitness that causes it, personal shame, or having been raised by wolves, but for some reason a ridiculous number of miscreants with driver’s licenses (presumably) believe that it’s okay to throw things from moving cars at bicyclists, just because they can. I don’t see them do this to pedestrians, skateboarders, or other vehicles — just bicycles. This week’s pillars of society were a pair of young men and a young lady in a shitty little sedan on Old Niskayuna Road, New York license plate ESG4524, who thought it the height of hilarity to slow down alongside me and threaten to throw a bottle of water at me. They did back off, so I didn’t call them in. But seriously — you will hurt someone, and when you do I hope you get what’s coming to you.
We do it ’cause we can… and like your cycling, it makes us feel better for doing it…
Ha, just kidding, not really…
It always amazes me when I see a cyclists with 10 of his buddies taking up the whole road, all the while their clothing is emblazoned with “share the road” paraphernalia… and ergo, we throw things…
…again, just kidding… um, not really…
I agree, cyclists need to follow the rules too. I too have seen groups of cyclists running lights and stop signs. I don’t do that, and I ride alone.
But every time this subject is raised, I get the same “cyclists don’t follow the rules” argument as a justification not just for anger but for violence. Does this mean that every time I see a motorist on a cellphone (illegal here without an earpiece), I should kick in his window? I wouldn’t get much cycling done. Does this mean that every time one makes an illegal pass on the shoulder I should get to throw a rock? It’s tempting. There are way more motorists breaking way more laws than there are cyclists, period.
