Synchronicity
(I’ll never forgive Sting for putting me in position where my dislike of The Police at that time, and the album “Synchronicity” in particular, has colored my view of an otherwise perfectly good word.)
The point, pre-rant, was going to be that one of the great great things about Intergalactic Shuffle Mode on the iPod is that it can deliver great moments of accidental synchronicity, such as tonight, when I was delightedly bopping my way through the grocery store and The Clash came on, singing “I’m all lost in the supermarket / I can no longer shop happily / I came in here for a special offer / Guaranteed personality.” Hey, I didn’t make it do that! It just happened. It also gave me Dar Williams’s “Spring Street,” which, like the rest of the “The Green World,” I didn’t appreciate much when it came out, but grow to like more and more (still not feeling that way about her most recent album, though). (Just checked CDDB — “Green World” came out in 2000. Can it have been that long ago?) It also served up a fabulous alternate version of The Ramones’ “I Want You Around,” very appropriate given that just this weekend Joey Ramone Place was dedicated at Second Street and the Bowery. The Post ran a nice picture of Joey’s mother, which just proves once and for all that, yes, their parents did know they were Ramones. (So take that, Miss Togar!)
Tomorrow, I ski! Ooops, better bring those boots inside, eh? It’s chilly out there, man…
