Per Ruth Crocker, she had three husbands, all of whom she outlived. The Hewitt husband died young. Varnum Sr. and Dana were the only Hewitt children.
Had twins Harold and Helen both died of pneumonia.
VAH Sr. had a sister Susan (?sister or half-sister?) who died in a sandpit or something. (per Ruth Crocker)
VAH Sr. was the fourth child of Henrietta (per BC).
May have had some Indian blood. Had a volatile temper. "The Old Squaw."
She and Wally Merrill had five girls (her second marriage to W.J. Merrill - ? did this marriage take place in NY or in MA?). Her first husband Adelbert died fairly young.
Went to Chelsea, MA, from New York State - with VAH Sr., Dana, and Effie (half-sister). Later they moved to Everett, MA.
Had no children with husband Monroe.
Both Grammy (Effie Osgood) Norris and Grammy (Henrietta) Monroe (Munro?) used to visit the Hewitts in Pembroke. Grammy Monroe used to have a lot of fun aggravating Grammy Norris. Would stay for as long as six months at a time.
Buried at Glenwood Cemetery, Everett, MA (per Meredith Peterson).
From Janet Hall, personal correspondence, July 26, 1997: m. bet 1881-1886...b. Apr 1860 prob. Wilmington, Essex Co., NY. Henrietta was still a Hewitt when her father wrote his will. She is 15 years old and with her parents in Upper Jay in 1875. Her name is found in Adoniram [Peck's] will dated 4 Jan 1894.

He may be the son of Varnum by a first marriage because the large gap in ages between he and his siblings listed. In 1880 census, listed as 31 yr. old, and working on family farm.
