Donald E. Cath -- Scotia -- Donald E. Cath, 71, of VanBuren Road, died Tuesday at home after a long illness. Born in Schenectady, Mr. Cath was a lifelong area resident. He was a security guard at the General Electric Co. for several years. He was also a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 29 years, retiring in 1985. He was later a part-time courier for Central Credit Bureau until 1995. Mr. Cath was a member of the Postal Carriers Union. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice M. Cath; two daughters, Cheryl A. Smith of Clifton Park and Deborah E. Edwards of Scotia; a son, Gregory A. Cath of Scotia; a brother, Howard Douglas Cath of Glenville; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The services wil be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union St., Schenectady. Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Park View Cemetery [Scotia]. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), in care of St. Peter’s Hospital, 315 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.

CATH -- On April 18, 2000; Donald E. Cath of VanBuren Road, Scotia. Husband of Beatrice M. Cath. Father of Cheryl A. Smith of Clifton Park, Deborah E. Edwards of Scotia, Gregory A. Cath of Scotia and the late Donald E. Cath II. Grandfather of Cindy Towers of Ballston Spa, Julie Coons of Mechanicville, Michael J. Smith of Cohoes and John W. Edwards II of Scotia. Brother of Howard Douglas Cath of Glenville. Also survived by four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service which will be held Friday morning at 10 o’clock at the Jones Funeral Home, 1503 Union Street. Thefuneral home will be open Thursday evening, 7 to 9 for those who wish to call. Friends who so desire may make contributions in Don’s memory to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, New York 12308 or to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Saint Peter’s Hospital, 315 S. “The marriage of Miss Beatrice Marguerite Graves, Kenville, Nova Scotia, Canada, to Corporal Donald E. Cath, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Cath of this city, took place on Nov. 23 at the Scotch Bush Church. Mrs. Cath was formerly employed with the Canadian government at Goose Bay, Labrador. Corp. Cath was formerly stationed at Goose Bay, with the U.S. Air force. The couple will reside at Mobile, Ala., where Corp. Cath is now stationed.”
