Her name was difficult to read in the 1900 census (Rhody?). She was born November 1829, had been married 47 years in 1900, had had 8 children, 5 still alive, and she could read and write.10

1890 Federal Census listed him as having been a private in Company L of the 24th NY Cavalry. He was living in Lower Jay. “Disability: Chronic rheumatism and kidney (corr??). Remarks: Taken prisoner Alexandria.”74

Jos. Peck lists a Samuel J. Ripley as a brother-in-law of Dillavan Peck that enlisted along with him.

In the 1870 federal census, he was living next to Adoniram Peck and Alva Peck. He was 41, a farmer; as with Adoniram, Samuel did not list value for his estate, but his wife did. Living with him were his wife Rhoda, L.D., Mary, David, Margarite, and Diana.29

In the 1900 federal census, he was a head of household in Jay. He gave his date of birth as September 1828, had been married 47 years. He was a farmer, his farm was owned but mortgaged, and he could read and write. He and his father were born in New York, but his mother’s place of birth was unknown.10
