Misc. Notes
“DAVID PECK, son of Joshua and Rachel (Mallory) Peck, was born probably in Sandgate, Vermont. He married Ruth Hamlin before 1815. She was born about 1795 in Essex County. David and his family spent most of their lives in the Wilmington and Jay area and his occupation as listed in the Federal census was a blacksmith, carpenter and farmer. During the battle of Plattsburgh on September 6, 1814, David was present at the militia’s camp area at Salmon river when his brother Philo was brought in from the field with a knee wound. Not much more is known about David and his wife Ruth other than the confiscation and sale of David’s land by John Harris, the Essex County sheriff in 1840. This was because of a judgment filed against David on November 23, 1839 by George G. Tobey for damages sustained and promises not kept. David and Ruth died some time after August of 1860.”96
