Mrs. Lois E. Pallotolo Loving "Nonnie" to all who knew her

SOUTHBURY — Lois Ellen Johnson Pallotolo, 83, died Saturday, March 12, 2011, gracefully and surrounded by loved ones.

Lois was born in Lake Placid, N.Y., on June 11, 1927, the daughter of the late Gladys and Guy Johnson. She was married to Salvatore "Sam" Pallotolo for 42 years. They raised their two children in Schenectady, N.Y., and Westerly, R.I.

Lois was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. The oldest of 10 children, she took on her role as family matriarch very early, helping to raise and support her brothers and sisters. After she married, she was the glue that held her family together, raising her two children and working as a lab technician.

Lois relocated to Southbury in 1986, where she resided with her daughter's family and quickly become "Nonnie" to everyone who met her. Whether it was offering a helpful hand to someone in need or the bucket of advice and wisdom she so quickly shared with us all, Nonnie was the one person you could always count on to be there for you. She was an active communicant of the Oxford United Church of Christ, an avid reader and enjoyed traveling. Her positive attitude, zest for life and generous spirit will live on forever in all those who knew and loved her.

Lois is survived by her two brothers, Tony and Duane Johnson; her sister, Louella Thompson; her son, Thomas Pallotolo of Middletown; her daughter, Cindy Nauiokas and her husband, Frank, of Southbury; her granddaughters, Amy Nauiokas and Jessica Nauiokas of New York City and Betsey Sweeney of Woodbury; her grandsons-in-law, Daniel Sweeney, Harry Harrison and James Connelly; and her three great-grandsons, Graydon, Archie and Jack.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 15, at 10 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Oxford. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main St. North. A memorial service will be planned at Memory Gardens in Albany, N.Y., at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Lois E. Pallotolo Scholarship Fund set up in her honor at Dickinson College, Carlisle, PA 17103. For online condolences, please visit www.munsonloveterefuneralhome.com.
