Misc. Notes
Charles is the brother of Martha, and I believe that he later lived with George Johnson. In 1860, he was 26, living in Crown Point, Essex County, as one of several boatmen in the hotel of Nathan Ingalls. Also listed as boatmen were Wallace and William Graham.
23 I also find references to “the Ingleston” place, with other spellings.
In 1855, he was living as the nephew in the home of Charles and Filey(?) Gould in Crown Point, along with sister Sarah and brothers Wallace and William. The boys were all listed as boatmen. Gould was a farmer who had lived in the town 15 years; Filey had lived all her life in the town. The Grahams had all lived 13 years in Crown Point. Charles and the boys were listed as Gould’s nephews, Sarah as his niece.
In 1880, he was living in Brandon, Franklin County (Coreys), in the home of George and Ellen Johnson, as a boarder, along with Charles Wilson. He is listed as a boatman, and George Johnson and Charles Wilson are listed as hunter’s guides. Most significantly, he is next to Philander Johnson, a connection I was previously uncertain of, who is listed as a blacksmith living with daughter Selva Farmer, grandson Walter (?) and granddaughter Jane. The connection between my Johnsons and Philander Johnson may still be merely geographic.
