Finally getting back into running, which I had pretty much left off by January because of a recurring injury, and then, of course, all that snow and cold. Snuck out for some lunchtime runs now and then, but just enough to pretend I was a runner. Now I’ve discovered that while I get bored out of my skull and lose all commitment on a treadmill, I can run on the indoor track at the Y just fine, so I’ve started doing that until the snow clears. (Yes, I said: “until the snow clears.” We’ve only had a few days of bare ground since before Christmas. Which is nice, but….. enough!) So the last couple of nights I’ve gotten up to the Y and started to rebuild my base. So far so good, though this pull around my right knee is a constant annoyance and threat. Did 55 minutes of low-intensity intervals last night, and that didn’t bother it at all. Hoping soon to get back outside in the mornings. This Y is constantly packed with people — where did they all come from? They sure weren’t at my old gym.
Three days of running and I can feel my body coming back to life. Skiing’s great, but it’s only short bursts every other week or so. I’ve got about eight pounds of winter laziness to burn off now.
Hannah is keeping up her training for the Freihofer’s, too. This is the third year she’s wanted to run it, but the first year she just wasn’t there, and last year she had a lengthy asthma problem in the spring that curtailed her training. This year she’s really sticking to it, and now she comes to the gym with me and does her workout on the track at the same time, which is pretty cool.
Also dying to get out on my bike. Could we get a little heat around here?
