Teunis Cath appears in Ancestry’s database of U.S. Army Register of Enlistments, 1798-1914. He enlisted on Dec. 31 1881 at age 21 and 6 months, at Albany, NY, under Captain Davis, gave his birthplace as Glenville, his occupation was farmer, his hair eyes were grey and his hair was sandy, his complexion light, he was 5-7.
It further says that he was in the 16th Infantry, unassigned to a Company, and that he deserted Feb. 3, 1882 at San Antonio, Texas.45 I don’t find anything in particular that was happening in San Antonio at that time.

He and wife Nellie were living with William H. Cath in 1892.39

Lived at the Waters Road house at time of death. Member of Kenyetto Tribe of Redmen.17

In 1900, he was living in Glenville with wife Nellie, son Walter, daughters Florence, Hazel, Ruth, and Marion. He reported that he was born April 1862, was 38 years old, married 9 years. He and his parents were born in New York. he gave his occupation as wagonmaker, could read and write, and rented a farm. 10

In the 1925 State Census, he was living on Waters Road, Glenville, with wife Nellie and children Harold R. and Margaret A. He was 63, a carpenter and laborer. They lived next to Samuel Knights, fishmonger.20


In 1930, he was living with Nellie, next to Knights, on Waters Road. He said his father was born in England. He listed his occupation as wood worker in own home.5

According to Ancestry.com, Teunis is Dutch: short form derived from Antonius.

The Amsterdam City Directories for 1935 and 1936 lists his address as RD 5, “Leaves Amsterdam via Church street, goes to Manny’s Corners, Cranesville and Glenville, and returns via Manny’s Corners.
Obituary
Obit, Schenectady Gazette, Tuesday, December 15, 1936: “Funeral service for Teunis H. Cath, 74, a life-long resident of Glenville, who died Sunday in St. Mary’s hospital, Amsterdam, after a long illness, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o’clock at the Baxter funeral home. Burial will be in the Glenville cemetery. The services tonight at the parlors will be conducted by Tonquas Tribe 100, I.O.R.M. of Amsterdam. Mr. Cath conducted a general repair shop in Glenville. He was formerly an active member of the Amsterdam Tribe of Red Men. He was the son of the late William H. and Selina [sic] Cramer Cath. Besides his wife, Mrs. Nellie Seaman Cath, he leaves six daughters, Mrs. Floyd Weaver of Glenville, Mrs. Ernest Smith of Grooms Corners, Mrs. Roberta Carrona [sic] and the Misses Ruth and Helen Cath of this city and Margaret Cath of Scotia; two sons, Howard of this city, and Harold Cath of Scotia; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; five sisters, Mrs. Thomas Plummer, Mrs. William Fisher, Mrs. William Vedder and Miss Cora Cath of Glenville and Mrs. Peter Boyer of Troy, and a brother, Edward Cath of Glenville.”17

June 18, 1948 Gazette Classified section, Real Estate for Sale:
“TOWN OF GLENVILLE -- The premises known as the Teunis Cath property on the Waters rd., being the first house on left off the West Glenville rd. The property consists of approximately 1/2 acre of land and 3 buildings: House, garage and workshop, all in poor condition. The house has several rooms upstairs but only the kitchen, pantry and small bedroom on the first floor are now in use. The sale of the above described property will be made subject to any covenants running with the land and the commissioner public [sic] welfare of Schenectady county reserves the right to reject any and all bids if in his judgment it shall be in the public interest so to do. TERMS -- 10% down at the time bid is accepted, balance in 30 days. All bids must be submitted in writing on or before July 6, 1948, and enclosed in an envelope and sealed and marked “Bid” and then enclosed in another envelope and mailed to Leo H. Vosburg, commissioner public welfare, County Welfare building, 487 Nott st., Schenectady 8, N.Y.”

At the 1900 census, she had been married 9 years, had had 5 children and all 5 were alive.10

Two obits for her in Gram Smith's box.
One said: "Died Friday at the home of her sister [sic], Mrs. Ernest G. Smith, Balltown Road. Born in Amsterdam, lived most of her life in West Glenville. Survivors include 5 daughters [a miscount, missing Helen]: Mrs. Floyd Weaver and Miss Ruth Cath, Glenville; Mrs. E.G. Smith and Mrs. Robert Carrano, Sch'dy; and Miss Margaret Cath, Scotia; sons, Harold and Howard (Sch'dy); sister Mrs. Hattie Truax of Amsterdam; 8 grandchildren, 6 great-granchildren." Other obit was essentially same, but correctly identified Hazel as her daughter. Handwritten on that one: "Died 2-27 1948; Funeral 3-1-48."

Was hospitalized at Sch’dy City Hospital, Altamont Avenue, 1-11 to 1-22-1948, @$7.50/day plus $29 for medication, for a total bill of $111.50. Bill sent to Mrs. Nellie Cath, RD7, Balltown Road.41

Funeral Services Held for Mrs. Nellie Cath
Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Seaman Cath, 77, of West Glenville, were held Monday at Baxter’s funeral home. Rev. Norman Vander Hart, pastor of West Glenville church, officiated.
The widow of Teunis Cath, she was born in Amsterdam but had resided in Glenville most of her life. She died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ernest G. Smith, Balltown road, Schenectady.
She is survived by five additional daughters: Mrs. Floyd Weaver and Miss Ruth Cath of West Glenville, Mrs. Robert Carrano and Miss Helen Cath of Schenectady and Miss Margaret Cath of Scotia; two sons, Harold of Scotia and Howard of Schenectady; a sister, Mrs. Hattie Truax, Amsterdam, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Burial will take place in the spring in the West Glenville cemetery.

Cranesville:
The death of Mrs. Timothy Seaman, which occured [sic] Saturday evening, cast a gloom of sorrow in this vicinity. For many years she has been a patient sufferer, bearing her affliction with Christian fortitude. She was a loving wife and mother, and her death is deeply deplored by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Mrs. William Truax of this place, and Mrs. Tunis Cath of Glenville, also four brothers and three sisters, John of Albany, Nicholas and Marcus of Amsterdam and Chester Bradt of Wisconsin, Mrs. Mary Larrabee of Cranesville, Mrs. John Milroy of Amsterdam and Mrs. William Milroy of Glenville. The funeral will be private, at the home Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Rev. R. Rogers will officiate. Interment in Glenville cemetery.
